A full-day professional development training that introduces a system and protocol for building a child-centered professional culture. Child Study emphasizes meeting the needs of all children, resolving difficulties early, and using a wide range of data to support student development. The Child Study Workshop is an online community of practice where graduates of the Child Study Training can refine and deepen their work. Child Study Leads meet for 12 sessions on videoconference calls throughout the school year in small groups led by an NCMPS Coach to ask questions, share, reflect, problem-solve, and work with the Child Study tools. The Child Study process is complicated and this workshop supports those new to the process in successfully implementing it at their school. Read More

The Coaches Workshop is an online community of practice where graduates of the Coaches Training can refine and deepen their work. Coaches meet bi-weekly on videoconference calls throughout the school year in small groups led by an NCMPS Coach to share, reflect, problem-solve, refine skills and tools, and learn new techniques. For schools new to the Workshop, an NCMPS Coach makes a site visit early in the year to better understand each program's particular needs. Please note: the cost is $1100 for the workshop, plus $700 for the site visit for new participants.  Returners, please email Michelle.boyle@public-montessori.org for a coupon for the cost of the site visit, so that your total is $1100. DERS training is a 5-hour online asynchronous course that prepares you to use the DERS effectively as a tool for classroom observation and continuous improvement. Participants will learn to identify, evaluate, and record classroom indicators which support development. The training includes a five-step certification process, which learners complete with the support of the DERS trainer. The DERS certification process: 1) DERS Quiz 2) Guided Practice Session 3) Independent Practice - Certification Video Rating Task 4) Norming Analysis 5) Closing Reflection Upon completion, DERS Observers will receive a one-year DERS Subscription and a DERS Observer Certificate. The Developmental Environmental Rating Scale Subscription Annual Renewal gives users 365 days of access to the DERS app for Observation The DERS offers objective, research-based guidelines for observation.  Administrators can use the tool to observe in classrooms, peers can use it for mutual support, and teachers can use it in their own environments. Assessment The DERS gives objective feedback on the presence of elements essential to high quality developmentally based education.  Schools can use the tool for internal assessments of classroom effectiveness. DERS training is a 5-hour online asynchronous course that prepares you to use the DERS effectively as a tool for classroom observation and continuous improvement. Participants will learn to identify, evaluate, and record classroom indicators which support development. This course will launch August 1st, 2019; users will have until the end of August to complete the training and certification process. The training includes eight modules, which learners complete with the support of a DERS trainer. 1) Opening Activity: Observation 2) What and Why: Measuring What Matters 3) Using the App 4) Training Score Report Submission 5) DERS Quiz 6) Guided Practice (due August 16th) 7) OPTIONAL Practice Observation 8) Certification Task (due August 25th) 9) Closing Reflection Upon completion, DERS Observers will receive a one-year DERS Subscription and a DERS Observer Certificate. At the end of the course, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a one-hour live Zoom call with a DERS trainer on Thursday, August 29th from 5-6pm ET to ask questions and refine their understanding of key items and indicators.
